Industrial engineers work in numerous positions that are concerned with the optimization of complex processes, systems or organizations by developing, improving and implementing integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information and equipment. With the combination of specialized knowledge and skills in the mathemetical, engineering and business sciences industrial engineers ensure the effective flow of processes, systems and operations.
Typical jobs and fields of employment are related to the design, development and optimization of production and manufacturing processes, i.e. shop floor control or inventory managment. Consulting and project management related occupations are also career opportunities. Other possibilities are logistics and supply chain management or quality managment. Apart form the administration and management related jobs quite a few graduates decide to become self-employed and start thier own business as entrepreneurs or engage themselves as intrapreneurs pushing forward innovation and fostering business development.
